Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
It means that no incident has been raised. That normally means that either not enough customers are affected or that the issue is not deemed to be system wide i.e. not a system failure.

Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Hi chgray
The recommended incoming server name is mail.talktalk.net but that'll have no impact upon the outgoing mail. Other than that the settings are perfect for a POP3 account.
Check to make sure you haven't got a default SMTP server set up for a 20i / stackmail account as that's where the BTInternet rejection is going to and where you're getting the error from. i.e. you're relaying email via 20i / stackmail. Relaying is not recommended because of the potential for recipient mail services to reject as you've discovered.
If you send from the talktalk smtp outgoing server you have shown in the email settings that should work nicely.
Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Many thanks - I "created" the settings by entering the e-mail address and the PC automatically asked the talktalk servers for the settings.
My PC is connected to a talktalk router via wi-fi - then via talktalk broadband to talktalkservers. I will "lift the lid" on my PC checking for SMTP servers but - as far as I am aware - I have no mail servers set up.
I will change the settings to mail.talktalk.net for incomming
As for stackcp.net - I note that Node4 (who own the domain) has been used by TalkTalk in the past (e.g. for TalkTalk Business) as part of its network. Maybe talktalk still use it - if not in their primary network - then maybe in a fallback.
It looks as though I can't use talktalk to send to that person reliably. Oh well.
Re: How to Find Out if TalkTalk Servers are Blocking an Incoming Email Address
I have sent both links to my friend and 'phoned her to give more background explanation. Let's see whether she follows up on it.
Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Hi chgray
TalkTalk do not use stackcp.net either for consumer or business mail services and I don't see why a mail hosting or mail relay service would ever be needed.
But think about what you're suggesting. If talktalk did use a mail hosting / relay service then the host servers get authenticated as approved by talktalk. There would definitely be an SPF record authenticating the mail host / relay.
If your email client is inexplicably sending via an email relay service then try another email client set up just for talktalk to prove that you can send talktalk email successfully to your BT Internet recipient. I suggest you set up Thunderbird.
Let me know if that works.
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
So nothing will be done until they admit the problem is big enough to bother about? That would fit with the authentication failures where people report it endlessly here and nothing happens until it fails completely.
Another bounced email from groups.io at 14:39 today, usual TT512.
Also, I got no notification email for your reply above, so if they need a fully detailed bounce message, they have one, as it presumably bounced!
Unable to send business e-mails to talktalk.net
Hi all, apologies if this is not the correct avenue to report this issue however I was directed here by the support agent who was trying to assist me.
We are currently trying to send e-mails to customers mailboxes on the talktalk.net domain however it looks like there is SMTP issues on the TalkTalk side as per the error log below.
Transfer to mx.talktalk.net. [62.24.202.42] For: test-mail@talktalk.net Receiving system returned "Deferred: Connection timed out with mx.talktalk.net." status 4.0.0, "Transient failure"
and
Transfer to mx.talktalk.net. [62.24.202.42] For: test-mail@talktalk.net Receiving system returned "Deferred: 452 4.2.0 wSScihmSf2yiGwSSciU0Yf Content defered (TT991)" status 4.0.0, "Transient failure"
"Deferred: 452" is a SMTP error which means "
Your mail server is 'overloaded'. This could be caused by too many messages attempting to send at once, the server being out of memory or storage space"
Is there any issues currently on the MX servers for Talktalk.net?
we have a on going issue with trying to send e-mails to customers, due to the nature of the contents of the e-mail, I am unable to disclose too much information.
Kind Regards,
Jayson
Re: Unable to send business e-mails to talktalk.net
Hi
The test-mail mailbox is not currently available. The connection has therefore timed out and delivery has failed.
The content deferred message means that the mail message has not been passed to the recipient straight away but deferred for scanning by the Cloudmark spam protection process.
You say you have a known ongoing issue getting mail to recipients because of the nature of the mail content. If the content is likely to be picked up by spam protection then maybe you know what you need to do?
Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
I have set up Thunderbird and will try it as well. I have used Outlook for decades and have my e-mails going back twenty years. I have been with TalkTalk since 2010.
I can not explain the error message received as a result of me using my TalkTalk e-mail account to send an e-mail to the BTinternet user over the TalkTalk network. Since I only use TalkTalk to communicate with the internet - I asked them for help. I will know not to try that again.
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
So at 16:21 I am still getting bounce backs , message is 550 5.1.1 wSfri4hNgsb9y Recipient Undeliverable (TT512).
To TalkTalk Management, is this acknowledged as a problem to be resolved for your customers? If so what is your plan ?
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
FYI I have now written to the CEO and the plc complaints, will advise if I get a constructive response
POP3 - Unable to send mail
Is there an issue with the POP3 email system tonight? I'm currently receiving email from my tiscali.co.uk account but am unable to send anything.
Outlook is producing the following error message "Task "pop.tiscali.co.uk - Sending" reported error (0x80042109): Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your ISP".
My PC is running Windows 10 and I'm using Outlook 2013. I haven't changed my PC or email settings so this issue appears to be at the TalkTalk end.
Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Hi chgray, Gondola has given you good and accurate advice. Try using TalkTalk webmail as suggested just to test to see if the mail behaves normally. If not then you know it's not 20icloud if the mail does what it should then you'll know Gondola was right.

Re: POP3 - Unable to send mail
Hi ZibZob, you appear to be the only one reporting an issue which would suggest it's not system wide. Are you still having problems?

Re: Unable to send business e-mails to talktalk.net
Hi
All customers with a *@talktalk.net addresses are having the same issue, the network team at talk talk do not wish to comment or assist at present but at the moment all mail to that domain is leaving our MX servers fine and making the connection to the TalkTalk Relay fine. the delivery is the part that is failing on the talk talk end.
I will highlight, we do not have a mail issue sending to all other domains.
Our Mail filter is successfully making the SMTP connection (And TLS) to the relay (defined by MX Record of talktalk.net)
We have no reported impact or indicators of any other faults we are seeing successful delivery to all other customers who do not use a talktalk.net domain (see error 452)
Thank you for your comment.
Kind Regards,
Jay,
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
Best you can hope for really, and what you should insist on, is a reduction to your fees. I did, even mid contract I got a discount given on my monthly payments, which is quite sizeable for the year and has given me some appeasement.
It wasn't easy, I did it through the live chat feature, but I got it. You can direct them to the history of the problems on here. Money talks - if enough of us insist on this then they will eventually sit up and maybe do something, as the Pipex issues really have been continuous for years for us all.
Don't be fobbed off and don't give in.
Re: Issue sending e-mail to BTinternet - SPF issue
Hi - I have successfully used Webmail, Thunderbird and Outlook. As mentioned previously - the issue has happened twice as far as I am aware - on the 27th December and the 20th January. Both times using the same settings on my PC.
I do not know how my e-mail was routed through 185.151.28.75. As previously mentioned, my PC is connected via a TalkTalk router to TalkTalk broadband. The e-mail client settings are as recommended by TalkTalk. Somewhere - the e-mail was sent via that IP address.
As previously mentioned - I will send a test mail each day via Thunderbird and Outlook to try and and see if the fault re-occurs.
Re: Pipex - Complete Loss Of Service
I don't want a reduction in the bill for a poor service, I want an internet service that is reliable!
It seems that every time one emerges, as soon as word starts to get round one of the big boys just buys them up and drags them down to their standards.

Yes I know that, we all do, but the way to get it would be to hit the finances, i.e. insist on discounts. Only then will the powers that be notice it.
You can try all the other ways, but they have all been done over the years, with zero results. But the best of luck to you.
